Let’s face it: If you’re anything like me, you’ve been to your fair share of shows, and you’ve collected your fair share of band shirts. Maybe most of yours ended up in Goodwill, like mine did, or maybe you have them lying around in drawers, hoping to be worn one day. I have a couple band shirts I keep around for nostalgic reasons, and even I won’t give them away. Besides being worn over leggings and a sports bra to yoga, however, none of my band tanks see much light.

The infamous New York fashion industry didn’t intimidate fourth-year fashion merchandising student Sophie Kerr-Dineen when it came to internships in the concrete jungle. “New York always seemed so magical– full of opportunity and interesting people,” says Sophie.

When we hear rap music on the radio or in a club, the deeper implications behind
the lyrics are usually the last things on our minds. As long as it has a nice beat,
powerful bass and a catchy hook, we’re good. And earlier this year, rapper Ace Hood
released an incredibly popular song with one of the simplest hooks of all time. I
woke up in a new Bugatti. Imagine if you didn’t actually have to buy one. You just
went to sleep one day and woke up in a $2 million vehicle. But for many of us, this
will always be something to daydream about. In fact, Ace Hood doesn’t actually
have a Bugatti of his own and says the lyric is meant to represent a feeling of
waking up and being successful – as though you’re worth a few million bucks. And
that’s something anyone can achieve by making some adjustments in their personal
lives, business relationships and attitude.

Your college years, everyone asserts, “are the best years of your life. ” As much as I loathe clichés, I can’t help but concur. Exemplified in my life by the liberty to choose classes and the lack of an uptight dress code (which spells death, in my opinion, to the fashion-forward girl), everything about this campus screams autonomy. However, one must learn to manage this freedom.

A typical night in 5 Points usually consists of a plethora of students (probably under the influence) celebrating the much-anticipated end to a stressful school week. Students stumble around from bar to bar looking for drinks and a good time because if we’re going to work hard, we’re going to play hard too. Inside of the bar, people eagerly push their way to the bartender in hope for a quick drink, but most of the time it’s not as fast as we expect, and people begin to get angry and impatient. After a taxing week, why should we have to wait to have a good time, right? Now, imagine being on the other side; the bartender. Or, taking it further; the owner of one of the most popular bars in 5 Points. After a long and stressful week, the hard work doesn’t stop for a bartender. They work hard, and then work harder.

The second year visual communications major from Atlanta almost instantly turned in to a local celebrity once a video of him freestyling in his dorm made it to Facebook. G&B Editor-in-Chief, Annie Drowne, sat down with Nate and got to learn about the past and present of his talent.

I thought my lungs were about to collapse. I could feel everyone around me staring. I could taste the smell of salt and fat lingering in the air. My legs were about to buckle beneath me, and as I slammed my luggage on the chair, I felt tears rolling down my face. How long had I been crying?

Garages will all set you back upwards of $300 as well. I am sure that for some students, the price is just another necessary college expense and provides their solution on how to get to class without getting a migraine. However, my initial reaction to those prices when I moved off campus as a sophomore was. heck no! I simply feel that I should not have to pay that much to park at my own school. Not to mention that upon looking into splurging on a garage spot for my senior year, all of these passes were sold out by about three days before the start of classes. According to the USC

For many of us, the long wait through the warm months of spring and summer for the return of football season are almost unbearable. Within the months upon months of meaningless Sundays between February and September, the imagination of an NFL fan begins to run wild with theories about the potential success (or failure) of their favorite teams.

If you are open to it, diversity can be found at the University of South Carolina. Sadly though, much of this campus looks quite homogenous at first glance. Large groups of kids wear similar outfits, speak the same way and are focused on fitting into a certain culture. After looking closer, you can see students who don’t fit this standard, who don’t care about fitting it, and who mingle with many of their peers including those of different races. These people are important in creating a campus that is truly integrated.
