So much of our generation grew up with dreams of becoming the next David Dobrik or Jaclyn Hill, of being sponsored by FashionNova or Morphe. But at the dawn of 2023, we’re left to wonder: is influencing a dying industry? Are the days of exaggerated storytimes and extravagant GRWMs coming to an end? We’ve seen so many of our favorite creators release videos titled, "Why I’m quitting Youtube,” either moving to the greener pastures of TikTok and podcasts or abandoning the limelight altogether. Even the OG TikTokers are more interested in making movies or releasing music than lip-syncing or participating in the latest dance trend. Despite all of this, influencing is still one of the most sought-after careers for young people. So, what isn't the public seeing? What is driving creators away from the platforms that brought them such success?

It's almost impossible to keep up with the ever-changing trends that occur (or reoccur) in pop culture and fashion. Technology continues to advance as fashion trends are commonly repeated, referenced and renovated into new designs for higher efficiency and style. In this style shoot, details from the Victorian and Renaissance eras were juxtaposed with early 2000s technology to show that styles and trends are always referenced, even in modern-day looks. As new styles continue to emerge, we may look back and realize there is more to learn from our past than we thought. In retrospect, we can note our flaws and apply the wisdom we gain to new ideas.

Versace, founded by Gianni Versace in 1978, is an Italian luxury brand that holds a reputation as one of the top design houses internationally. Versace was inspired by Greek culture and mythology, hence Versace’s Medusa logo and use of Greek accents. He also created his brand on a foundation of feminism. Donatella Versace, Versace’s current artistic director, has strengthened this foundation. In an interview with Donatella per Grazia Magazine, a women’s magazine in Italy, Ms. Versace discusses her motivations when designing her collections. “Women live complex lives; we’re complex people, with many different sides to what we do every single day. When I'm designing my collections, I’m always thinking about the woman today and the intricacies in her life.” Recognizing the power of women today, Ms. Versace said, “[this is] the power I want to express in my shows.” Ms. Versace sees fashion as a way for women to embrace their beauty and power.

Ballet is breathtaking, but its history of racism, sexual abuse and body shaming casts a shadow on its poise and grace. With the resurgence of the "balletcore" aesthetic, led by designers like Simone Rocha and MM6 Maison Margiela, "Ballet to Runway" presents a progressive take on the traditional art form. Through dynamic poses, this shoot aims to highlight the intricate beauty of ballet-inspired fashion across a diverse array of models. It also adds an avant-garde twist to impressions from the ballet classroom and famous ballet performances. The shoot even features original garments made by the stylist, who is a fiber artist.

Fashion is art and art is fun, creative, imaginative and beautiful. Life can only be those things if you chose it to be. It is easy to get lost in the beauty of fashion in terms of how far you can take it, how simple or extraordinary you can make it with no problem at all. Every piece is a little bit more exciting to put together, it can get frustrating but nowhere near as life can get. It is easier to start over when you mess something up, you can dream big and plan ahead of time because you know that if you stuck to the blueprint, then it will turn out exactly how you envisioned it to be. There might be some slight changes, but you know exactly that it’s for the best. You believe it to be true because you have concrete proof, you can witness it getting better right before your eyes. You are in complete awe of how coherently it’s all coming together. It’s so much easier and so much more fun to dream of something when you know that it will only get better. You get to have exactly what you want in every detail no matter how big or small the art may be.

The trend cycle is one of the most predictable yet mysterious phenomena in the world. Each September, stylists, editors, influencers, retailers, models and more gather in all the major fashion cities to watch top-tier designers showcase their newest collections. From the runway, these trends trickle down through the pyramid of fashion individuals until they circle back approximately 20 years later. Every fashion trend has been strategically forecasted one to five years prior. Thus, based on research, we can confidently say these 10 trends are going to be everywhere this fall.
