Companies like Yelp and Trip Advisor give you the best of the best. Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but some of us don’t want to know the best places in a city, we want a more authentic experience. There are so many places that the internet won’t tell you about because only locals know about them. I’ve come to learn that especially in this city, University of South Carolina students and residents of Columbia definitely have better insight and advice than the internet.
Currently, almost all of my close friends are in relationships, so the pressure of “oh my god, I’m going to die alone” has started. This could not have come at a worse time. Not only am I trying to deal with dating during the pandemic, but I am trying to deal with dating during the pandemic as a cynical, depressed lesbian.

One out of every seven people struggles with hunger in South Carolina, and the state sits with a 15.5% poverty rate, making it consistently among the top 15 states with the highest poverty rates in the country. Almost 1 million dollars worth of food has been distributed to individuals through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in South Carolina alone. As an individual who has seen the effects of poverty and government assistance up close, I can firmly say that terms such as “SNAP," “E.B.T" and “poverty” do not typically have the luxury to co-exist with phrases like “health-conscious," “fresh produce" and “home-grown."

In 2005, more than 80 members of the United Nations ratified the Kyoto Agreement. It was an extension of a climate treaty created in the last decade, calling nations and states across the globe to commit to acknowledging and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to curb the effects of climate change.
