As technology is getting increasingly advanced, many people are craving the simple times of the ‘90s and the ‘00s. The turning of the millennium had the future at the top of the minds of the masses and was responsible for the creation of the Y2K futurism aesthetic. Featuring sleek, tech-heavy aspects along with unique cutouts, silver accessories and graphics of smooth, liquid-like gradients, it combined the technological advancement of that period with the turn of the millennium's optimistic nature. Now, we are in that future they romanticized, but many wish for those simple times to return. Ironically, the futuristic styles from the '00s were correct, but for nostalgic reasons rather than pure futuristic fashion. Styles like sleek wrap-around sunglasses, wide-leg pants and chunky platform boots carry on today; however, technology hasn’t found its way back to the styles of the ‘90s. Vintage tech is often used as accessories to add personality to an outfit or to make a statement. Flip phones tucked into a waistband, headphones connected to an mp3 player or even an iPod Nano all add a unique layer to any outfit. As we long for the simplicity of the past, keeping aesthetics alive and integrating them with the trends of today can influence us to romanticize our moments in the present instead of wishing for the past or a fantasized future.
