We'll Bring the Cinches

For centuries, the corset was designed to be hidden. It shaped the body according to the beauty ideals of its time, beneath layers and layers of clothing. The garment has been integral, and even widely required, in women’s fashion, from early forms of body-shaping garments in the BCE to the structured stays of the late Renaissance to the tightly laced corsets of the Victorian era.

Women were liberated from corsets just over a century ago, no longer forced to shape their bodies against their will. Now, the corseted silhouette is being reclaimed as a statement piece and outerwear garment.

The corset’s boning, lacing and sculptural lines have been perfected over centuries of fashion, and now it’s time for them to be seen.
