The Mid-Semester Blues

Spring Break has come and gone; therefore, the only thing standing between you and summer time is finals (and about one million other things). There are only four weeks of classes left to power through, which sounds like such a short amount of time. It is important to make the most of those weeks as this semester comes to a close. Here are some helpful tips for getting through those four weeks while still enjoying the spring weather.

1. Study Time: The days are getting sunnier, which means that it is harder and harder to stay inside and study. Maximize your study time by studying outside. A new environment is always a good idea and studying outside will leave you feeling refreshed. Some good outside study spots are the Horseshoe, Drip Coffee in Five Points, outside of Thomas Cooper Library or outside of Russell House.

2. Change Up Your Workout: Now that the weather is warming up you can change your usual gym routine for a run outside. Taking your workout outside will let you soak up some rays while getting in shape. Running to or around the State House will give you a beautiful spring view, and you can also take advantage of the steps and burn a few extra calories. Shandon is also a friendly and beautiful neighborhood to run at during the spring.

3. Lazy Grades: Don’t let your grades slip too much in these last four weeks. I know it gets harder and harder to make yourself care with summer so close. Throwing away all of your hard work from the first half of the semester would make the whole semester a waste. Don’t get too distracted as summer approaches. Keep your expectations high through finals week.

4. Get Sleep: You may think that surviving off of five hours of sleep for the rest of the semester is enough but unfortunately, it is not. Less sleep makes your immune system weak and it is important to stay healthy during this allergy season. The more sleep you get, the more productive your days will be and the more motivation you will have to close the semester strong.

The middle of the semester is always the most stressful time of the year. The good news is that you can enjoy the spring weather while being productive. Don’t let the anticipation of summer cause you to sacrifice the last half of the semester. Stay healthy, exercise, get plenty of sleep and the rest of the semester will fly by.
