Recently engaged celebrity couple, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, made the cover of the April issue of Vogue Magazine. While this cover was a dream come true for the couple and their 9-month-old daughter, North West, social media seemed to be somewhat less enthusiastic.
The cover features the couple in wedding attire with Kim in a cream-colored wedding dress and Kanye in a suit embracing her from behind. It is titled, “Kim & Kanye: Their fashionable life and surreal times.” Underneath the title is the hash tag #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE. The photo was shot by famed photographer, Annie Leibovitz, who has worked with Vogue on numerous occasions.
Numerous Twitter users expressed hatred toward Vogue for allowing the couple on the cover of the fashion magazine. Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar sent a tweet stating, “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???,” and received over 12,000 favorites. Other tweeters feel that the Vogue is about style, fashion, and class rather than reality TV stars and musicians. There are also arguments that they do not deserve of the hash tag that claims they are the “world’s most talked about couple.”
Of course parodies of the couple’s cover photo are beginning to surface on the web. There’s the “Kermiggy” photo featured on Vague Magazine that shows the famous Muppet characters Kermit and Miss Piggy in place of Kanye and Kim. My personal favorite parody features James Franco and Seth Rogen playing the parts of Kanye and Kim, respectively.
There is no doubt that Kanye and Kim’s relationship has developed in the spotlight of the media so the social media criticism is to be expected. The media has not gotten in the way of the couple’s relationship progressing thus far, so certainly will not stop them now.

The wedding date for “Kimye” is set for May 24, 2014 in Paris. Needless to say, there will be more social media attention when and after they tie the knot.
