Be Yourself, No One Else Can

You would think it would be an easy feat to just…you know, be yourself. Do what you want ‘cause you want to do it. Like what you like ‘cause… you know, you like it.

Sadly, that’s not the case anymore.

Many of us are hell-bent on fitting in, getting in on the latest trend or knowing the latest lingo and blending in to our so called style tribe and friend group. Some people like being a part of the majority for whatever reason; they like having their voice surrounded by others, much like their ideals, perspectives and look. That’s cool; I can’t be one to pass judgment. But I promise if you’re one of these people, it is much less exhausting to just be yourself.

Be proud of what you like, of what you wear and of who you are because there is NO ONE who is like you. Even if you’re an identical twin, you may share DNA but you don’t share a soul. There comes a point in your life when you realize you need to surrender to the universe and stop wasting unnecessary energy with things that don’t matter.

Surround yourself with people who celebrate you and your differences and who don’t judge them. Friends should fill you up with joy and passion and bliss, they shouldn’t make you feel bad or worthless or used.

Indulge yourself in your own tastes and passions. There’s nothing strong about dimming your own light. Celebrate yourself and bask in it and I promise you, so will everyone else.

Namaste,
Gabriela
