Sports Weekend Update

Volleyball

The Gamecock volleyball team had a great start to their season with three consecutive wins against S.C. State (3-0), Florida International (3-0) and High Point (3-0) at the Gamecock Invitational. All three games were won in three easy sets. The Big Orange Bash at Clemson presented more of a challenge for Gamecock Volleyball. The team suffered three losses against Clemson (3-2), Furman (3-1), and Winthrop (3-2), giving the Gamecocks an overall record of 3-3.

Next, the Gamecock’s travel to the Blue Devil Invitational at Duke to face Utah State (5-2), Liberty (1-6), and Duke (4-2).

Not to worry though. According to the Gamecocks Online interview with Cory Burkarth after the Gamecock Invitational, Head Coach Scott Swanson stated that the athletic team is, “Riding on that athleticism on the court and the leadership of our returners,” to help set them apart and advance this season.

Buzz on Campus

Carolina football as always. The beginning of the school year means the beginning of SEC football for most students. So here are two tips to make sure that you are making the most of your USC Football season.

The right attire. This mostly applies for the lady Gamecocks out there. Game Day is the one day a week that you can wear every item of garnet and black clothing that you own, slap on some pearls, throw on some cowboy boots, and own the tailgate lot as if it were your personal runway.

Know what to cook. It is important to think outside of the box when it comes to your typical burgers and hot dogs. Wouldn’t you like to be known as the tailgate with the homemade pimento cheese and pita chips, amazing turkey burgers, and the extra spicy wings?

Have a great weekend, Gamecocks!
