Is Miley "Wrecking" Her Career?

It looks like Miley Cyrus is driving a wrecking ball. But is it a cry for help regarding her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, trying to move on from “Hannah Montana” or a brilliant career move?

Cyrus’ recently released video, for her song “Wrecking Ball,” shows her riding an actual wrecking ball, crying, and destroying what looks like a house. But the song itself, describes a rocky relationship. So, is she singing about her rocky relationship with Hemsworth (who starred in “The Hunger Games”), destroying her “Montana” image or just a new persona altogether?

By now, most of us have seen the video, where she appears nude for a few shots. While some of us may consider the video artistic, especially since those scenes resemble those you might find in an art museum, others have taken the tabloid route by saying it’s scandalous and Cyrus should be ashamed of herself.

During the summer, Miley Cyrus released her single, “We Can’t Stop,” which was also mired with chastising comments. The video for this song shows her dancing provocatively and “twerking” which, to those that do not know, is a form of shaking someone’s backside.

Cyrus upped the ante in August during a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she performed “We Can’t Stop.” However, while the crowd was provoked, the dancing did not stop there. She, then, joined Robin Thicke during his performance of “Blurred Lines,” whose video was also deemed lewd although many considered it the song of the summer.

Cyrus, to her credit, considers her recent performances a good business decision and fends off accusations that anything is wrong. However, when you look at her new video for “Wrecking Ball, ”you have to wonder: Is this just a case of performance art or a cry for help?

Cyrus’ recent performances and videos are hardly alone. Back in 1984, during the first MTV VMAs, Madonna wore lingerie and a veil while performing her big hit “Like a Virgin.” That performance was considered just as scandalous back then, yet now is considered to be one of the most iconic performances of all time.

Lady Gaga is also known for her scandalous performances, including her romp at this year’s VMAs. It was there where she kept changing costumes and performed scantily clad while singing her new song “Applause.”

So, before you jump to conclusions, ask yourself this: “Is Miley crying for help or is she joining the ranks of superstars like Madonna and Lady Gaga?”

While there’s no denying that her “Hannah Montana” days are long behind her, the future is unknown. Whether you think she needs help or not, one thing is for sure: She’s got us talking…and that is the definition of a budding superstar!
