Naked Is The New Norm

When I first heard about the new reality show on VH1, “Dating Naked”, I was shocked. I couldn’t believe they were airing a show of people going on casual dates, completely nude. Let’s be honest, there’s nothing casual about that.

I was so intrigued that I watched an episode of the show. I now know why it is becoming a new rage in television. It’s ridiculous. It’s like a train wreck; you can’t look away. Two participants are set up for three dates. The participants strip down to their birthday suits and meet their naked dates. It’s so awkward that you’re captivated and can’t stop watching.

It gets even better when the two bare-skinned participants go on a date. In the episode I watched a couple went water skiing; totally normal right? Not when they’re both nude and you can see every inch of their bare skin bounce and swing while they are skiing.

Another show on the rise involves nudity. It’s Fox’s new show called “Utopia”. The show isn’t necessarily about being nude, yet the ‘pioneers’ (one group on the show) are not hesitant about stripping down and going au natural on camera. Already, the show has gotten over 1 million viewers.

I guess we have gotten to the point in media today where we need to get naked to captivate an audience. Modesty no longer exists in our society. Yet it’s weird to imagine doing such a thing as dating or being on camera nude that we are allured by these shows. However, maybe these shows have an underlying message, which is that there’s no need to judge each other on appearances. We need to look past our skin and into each other’s souls. Either way you see it, naked is the new trend on reality TV and it’s here to stay.
