"Dressed To Kill" Tour

All hail the queen! Queen Cher, to be exact. Once again the music veteran is bringing her talents to the stage with her “Dressed to Kill Tour,” more widely known as the “D2K Tour.” With dates all over the country, this powerhouse singer is giving her fans what they want for the next few months.

First off, this woman is 68 years old, and is still putting on sold-out shows. This isn’t the only reason she’s amazing, but it does deserve some honorable mention. Cherilyn Sarkisian first found her way into the music business when she started singing with her husband in the 1960s as Sonny and Cher. Since, she has been acting and continuing to make music. In 2002, there was a lot of talk that the pop diva may be done with putting out music after her 325-date “The Living Proof: The Farwell Tour,” ending in 2005. Eight years later, though, she found her way back and released an album entitled “Closer to the Truth.” Now she is using her “D2K Tour” as promotion for the album.

Clips from the concerts show that it starts off with photos of Cher, over the years, flashing across the big screen. After letting the music play for a while, Cher comes out in a costume that stands up to the expectations of what a woman like Cher would wear. Big, extravagant, and something out of a Las Vegas show. With an opening performance of “Woman’s World,” the first single off her latest album, she gets the crowd up and dancing. Cher keeps fans intrigued with multiple set and costume changes throughout the show. On August 19th, she even tweeted that one of the wardrobe changes consists of her being “naked except for platinum gold beads and stones.”

According to a fansite, cherworld.com, she performs 20 songs, new and old. Even “I Got You Babe,” the song that catapulted her and Sonny to fame, makes its way into the show. She is also believed to perform two of my favorites: “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” and “Believe.” She then ends the show with her emotional ballad, “I Hope You Find It.” Though the set list consists of some slower songs, the entire concert seems to be upbeat. Besides the usual song and dance, Cher’s ad-libs in between songs are a favorite part of any show.

Cher has been in the music business since the 60s, and is still performing like she started yesterday. After being away from music for a while, she’s back and clearly has something to prove. The “D2K Tour” is a must-see if you’ve ever wanted to be in the presence of an icon. She’ll be making her way to Charleston on November 19, and I hope to be able to witness the show personally.
