Superlatives: “Most Likely to be on the Metropolitan Opera Stage”

Sing your heart out

After two years of excruciating training at the South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts, Davis Dykes continues on his career path at the University of South Carolina. He is a first-year vocal performance major that has always had a special love of classical music; opera to be exact.

Even though he’s just a freshman, Davis will be performing three different parts in USC’s upcoming productions of “Candide” and “L’elisir d’amore”, and believes that as a performer, it is his duty to be a medium for the vision of the composer.

Later in his career, he hopes to combine the classic elements of opera with new elements from today’s world such as costuming inspired by Lady GaGa’s heel-less shoes or songs that emulate Amy Winehouse’s sultry aura. He may even compose, conduct, or perform in the first “modern” opera featuring Lana Del Rey, Azealia Banks, and Renee Fleming with hopes to challenge his audience to view opera differently.

Before he throws in the towel, Davis wishes to perform on the most renowned stages across Europe (especially Italy). So be on the lookout for Davis as he tackles the USC Opera stage and more to come.
