5 Songs to Get You Through Valentine's Day

The day of love is coming up this Friday the 14th and if you are anything like me you love any excuse to eat heart shape candy and hug super soft stuffed animals in the Valentines Day aisle of Target. With a day dedicated to love it’s easy to feel like crap if you don’t have a Valentine. Well I’m here to tell you that it’s perfectly okay to not have a special someone, be your own sweetie (or find a friend/dog/cat/Tumblr any will work fine) and treat yourself. Take this day and make it your own, and just for you I made a playlist that is crucial to every feeling you most definitely will be feeling on February 14th.

1. “R U Mine?” – Arctic Monkeys
This just might be the first question you ask on Valentine’s Day and what a great song to play while pondering/asking this question. If the answer was yes, you don’t need this playlist. If the answer was no, well you need to use that skip and go straight to song two.

2. “I Don’t Care” – Fall Out Boy
Let’s be honest, if you haven’t listened to this song when you’re pissed then you haven’t lived. “I Don’t Care” is the perfect ‘I don’t give a crap about you or your Valentine, it’s all about me’ song, which is the first feeling you will most definitely feel when you see all the obnoxious couples out. Play the music video to this for a laugh and make sure it’s realllllly loud.

3. “My Broken Heart” Noah and the Whale
Well you’ve said screw you to practically everyone but behind those harsh feelings are a broken heart that needs healing. Noah and the Whale is the perfect way to wallow in your feelings while making you feel better about yourself because at least you didn’t get your heart broken like Charlie Fink, the lead singer.

4. “It’s About Time” – Young the Giant
This song is right… it’s about time! You’ve had your sad song but that’s the only one you’re allowed, it’s Valentine’s Day! Don’t mope around anymore, that’s so 2010. Let’s get back to the ‘I don’t care’ mood because you are strong, independent, and don’t need no man/woman. Today is about you so forget whoever/whatever you don’t have and let’s make the best of it.

5. “I Need Fun in My Life” – The Drums
At this point you have realized that you really do need fun in your life. At this time it is appropriate to break out the wine and have a dance party by yourself or at the singles club you and your homies just created. I give you permission to do so listening to the wonderful voice that is Jonny Pierce of the Drums.
