Katy Perry's Big Year

It is undeniable that Katy Perry is one of the major pop sensations of her time. She has experienced a gamut of success such as winning 11 of her 20 nominations and having her own top selling 3D movie, among many other achievements. Katy Perry released her new album “Prism” this past October. As expected, the album has received a positive response from both critics and fans. Katy Perry’s last album, “Teenage Dream,” was released in August of 2010. The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 192,000 copies in its first week. It was later certified two times platinum; selling more than 2.7 million copies in the United States and approximately 5.7 million copies worldwide. Additionally, the album earned Perry seven Grammy nominations. The list continues to grow, as “Teenage Dream” is the second album in history to have five number ones from album, Michael Jackson being the first.

Since she had a lot to live up to, it only seems fitting that Perry took three years to perfect her newest album “Prism.” During her time in between releasing her albums, Perry also spent time touring. The 29-year old’s previous California Dreas Tour spanned 124 dates over a year and went on to become one of the highest-grossing tours of 2011. After much anticipation, Perry has announced plans to tour in support of her latest album. Perry took to Twitter to tweet, “I’M GOING ON A WORLD WIDE TOUR!! Playing ALL your favorite songs AND all the brand new ones!” She would not reveal where the tour would start off, but hinted that she “love[s] these people and their accents.” Katy Perry will confirm the first dates and locations on November 18, but until then we have to sit and wait.
