Understanding Personal Space

What is manner?

Well, a manner is a way of behaving, but it is also one of those words we (English speakers) like to use as a substitute for what we consider proper and civil behavior.

Being the lady that I am, there are some things that just don’t register on my radar. One of those
things the American custom shaking stranger’s hands.

To put it simply: I don’t need to be touched by anyone in order to feel welcomed or greeted. I should not have to touch you in order for you to feel excepted by me.

At an early age (before I was 8) I began to study customs from all over the world. I thoroughly understand that whatever you become accustom to doing is what you do… However one of the things that most puzzles me about the U.S. is this feeling that “we” lead the way and everyone should want to follow. If we are a melting pot shouldn’t there be more blended ideas. Not all cultural customs teach that one should touch another in order to greet them.

It is not disrespectful to not want to touch somebody you don’t know!

Yes I am talking about all of sickening individuals who use the bathroom and leave without even looking at the sink! And yes, you are sickening! You make other people sick!

No one should have to break the personal space barrier or a germ barrier in order to great you.

In fact is it you who is disrespect me when you want me to touch one of the germiest parts of your body?

Get your hand off me!
