Last Minute Costume Ideas

Tomorrow is Halloween and you have found yourself without a costume or money. Here are a few cheap last minute ideas that aren’t quite as lame as the cowgirl or ghost costume you were planning on wearing.

1. Assortment of M&M’s

Do you have a group of friends, paper, and bright colored t-shirts? Then you can wear this costume. Each person wears a different colored shirt and then paste a paper “M” on the front.

- Bright colored shirts (Wal-Mart, $5)

- Paper, scissors, glue

“I don’t have any friends” (or they all didn’t wait until the last minute like I did).

This is not a problem, simply follow the steps above but add a baseball cap and a hoodie. Now you are M&M/Eminem.

2. “Stranger with Candy”

(My personal favorite) Don’t have any friends? For this impressive costume, write the words “stranger” on a plain white t-shirt and “candy” on a bag. Fill the bag with an assortment of candy and pass it out to people you do not know.

- Plain white shirt (Again, Wal-Mart, $5)

- Bag or pillowcase

- Candy (Any local grocery or convenience store, $2-$7)

- Sharpie

- A creepy smirk and generous attitude

3. Go Green

Do you consider yourself an environmentalist? Do you care about nature and use words like “eco-friendly,” “solar” and “carbon-footprint” in normal conversation? Then here is the costume for you. Step one: paint your face and hands green. Step two: wear green clothing.

What do I need?

- Green paint (Of course, Wal-Mart, $4-$12 depends on amount)

- Green clothing (preferably borrowed from another person or “recycled”)

- Love for mother nature (or use any words you may find when you Google renewable energy)

4. “Dave”

This amazing costume idea came from season 5 of The Office. Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) dressed as “Dave” for the office’s Halloween party. To create this guise, write Dave (or any other name you please) on a name tag then place the name tag on yourself. You now have an outfit that will ensure you last place in any costume competition.

- Name tag (“My name is … ” works best)

- Pen or marker

- Average outfit

5. Dirty Laundry Basket

This is the perfect costume for a college student but will probably take the most time. To create this ensemble, find a laundry basket and cut two holes in the bottom (for your legs). If you rather not carry a laundry basket all night, tie some rope around the basket and either put it around your neck or shoulders. Then, locate an old laundry detergent box (ask a neighbor or friend) and cut holes for your mouth, eyes, etc. Finally, put some of your clothing (dirty or clean) into the basket.

What do I need? – Laundry basket (that you are willing to break)

- Empty laundry detergent box

- Random articles of clothing
