Outfit Hacks

Hello ladies, gentlemen and non-binary individuals. It’s Joseph Sewell, your resident Garnet & Black Online men’s fashion blogger. I’m back to talk to you about men’s fashion…duh. Today, I’ll be discussing what I like to call “outfit hacks:” little modifications you can do to an outfit—which aren’t big— but can change the entire look of the outfit. The key to these modifications is subtlety…which may seem a little hypocritical for me to say because I’m so incredibly loud…but, I know subtlety when it comes to my wardrobe. Simplicity is my friend. We have an ongoing flirtation.

Sleeves

Sleeves always look good, specifically long sleeves. But it’s how you wear your sleeve that makes the difference. That being said, when you’re wearing a button down shirt, roll the sleeve up your arm. Simply unbutton the cuff and roll it up twice or thrice by the width of the cuff. It frees up your wrists, looks casual, still looks great and, according to my female friends, is sexy. I have to be honest, I agree with them about that last point.

Shoes and shirt combos

Match your shirt with your shoes. It provides a good contrast with your pants and it keeps your color palate simple and clean. For example, I have a pair of garnet Polo boat shoes that I wear when I wear any of my multiple Carolina shirts. It keeps the color palate of the outfit more uniform and it makes the presentation as a whole look better. Even though, let’s be honest, I can’t look much better than I already do. I’m joking….a little bit.

Belts

Belts are not just for keeping your pants up. They also help accentuate the color combinations of your outfit. Brown belts go with brown shoes, black with black, etc. But, using different colored belts can help accessorize your outfits in subtle ways. Try a light colored belt with dark colors (I have a white belt I wear with almost everything), a belt with a design on it like the design of the South Carolina state flag.

So, those are my suggestions because, as always, they are simply suggestions. As much as I’d like to think so, I am not a fashion expert (yet). As always, questions, comments, concerns, and complaints (even though I don’t particularly care if you have complaints) can be directed to sewellmj@email.sc.edu, subject line G&B Online. Stay cute and— since the weather is cooling down— stay warm!
