Rhett Can NOT Contain Her Joy: Christmas Has Come Early!

There are few things in this world that come between me and sleeping. Actually, I take that back. Nothing comes between me and my sleeping. I have a tendency to stay up for 48 hours straight working and studying then turn around and hibernate for the next 24 hours (college kid problems). I close the shutters, put on some Sigur Ros, send out a warning text to my friends and then disappear; it’s become sort of a routine. Last Wednesday I did this, but when my head hit the pillow I received an email that gave me so much energy that I couldn’t sit.

I was pacing and frantically calling my fellow audiophiles freaking out. With little sleep, my emotions got the best of me and I might have cried with joy.

The email was my favorite artist of the year’s tour schedule announcement, and he is scheduled to come to NEW BROOKLAND TAVERN IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA. Why? How? Who? I have no answers for you, people. I wish I knew how this miracle happened for my own sanity. I genuinely have to credit it to fate/karma/blessings from above because, when February 9th rolls around, I will be skipping every class that day and chaining myself to the NBT stage to meet, greet, and stare at the man who created the greatest album of the year. BATHS. Ugh! I die. Not to mention his tour opener STAR SLINGER is brilliant.

All of my radio show listeners know that I have a deep intense obsession with the glo-fi/dream pop movement and to me Baths is the perfect artist in this genre. Although he is typically labeled as a “chillwaver,” I see his beats so much stronger and intense then that of Toro y Moi or Washed Out. Bath’s glitching, intricate layering, and Books-like sampling are in no way “chill”. It’s content heavy while still being strongly focused on the beats. His album, Cerulean, is the best album of the year.

Star Slinger is what is going on in music right now. His remixes are insane, his original work is brilliant. It’s all EXTREMELY sexual and electronic R&B based music-to-be-seduced-to if you will, and he is HYPE as hell. I can’t contain my excitement to see him! It’s going to be insane. Do yourself a favor, and indulge in his bandcamp. It’s GLORIOUS! I am perplexed at how, or who, got HIM to sign up to come to Columbia. I feel like I'm going to hyperventilate when I see him.

All I know is I am thankful it is happening. I am living for Wednesday, February 9th at NBT. ALSO, IT IS EIGHT DOLLARS. Expect all of the audiophiles, indie kids, cool kids, hipsters, freaks and geeks of Columbia and other neighboring cities to unite as one in pure bliss.
