Music Minute: Avicii

Shy 20-something, line crosser and Billboard chart-topper.

Avicii began when Tim Berg, an inspired 18-year-old, started remixing songs from his bedroom at home. He then began creating his own tracks. His remixes and tracks got leaked onto music blogs across the Swedish house music scene and his popularity grew.

Once his music became more well known, Tiësto, one of the world’s most well known DJs, began to support and promote his work. This was even more of a jumpstart for the young artist’s career. Avicii’s first hit, “Levels,” helped the artist continue to advance in the house music scene.

Most well-known recently for tracks “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother,” he has been innovative in crossing lines and boundaries in music that others before him have not crossed. These tracks include folk-like rhythms and melodies while combining electronic sounds and techniques. Avicii has created new sounds and emotions through music that have not been seen before.

Now playing massive festivals and concerts across the globe, Avicii continues to grow. His new releases never cease to hold to new perspective on how music can evolve. Once Avicii released his latest album, be released an album of remixes he produced himself of his own music. Through this, he continues to evolve his own music to create the masterpieces he and his audiences know he is capable of.

Avicii is an artist to watch in the coming months. There is no doubt that he will continue to amaze and surprise his audiences with unexpected twists in the evolution of music.
