Five Albums to Make Your Day More Fashionable

I will never claim to be a music buff; my limited music taste speaks for itself. I do, however, know that listening to the right album when you’re getting ready can change your entire day (or at least your look). Here are five albums to listen to when you’re getting ready for the day ahead.

What to listen to when you’re feeling mod: “Release Me” by The Like
Although The Like broke up a few years back (cue the waterworks), this 2010 release is still relevant. With its ’60s beats and girl power lyrics, this album is still one of my favorites. Tracks like “He’s Not a Boy” and “ I Can See it in Your Eyes” will make you dance around your room as you’re getting ready, and the soft harmonies in “Don’t Make a Sound” and “Why When Love is Gone” will make your heart melt (in the best way possible).

What to listen to when you’re feeling like a god/dess: “Yeezus” by Kanye West
Get it? Cause Kanye thinks he’s God reincarnated, so you may as well jam out to this album when you’re feeling particularly godly. Tracks like “I’m in It” and “Send It Up” will have you dropping it low with their deep bass and catchy beat. “Yeezus” has a strong composition throughout the entire album and even features some cool guests like god her/himself. I don’t tend to listen to hip hop or rap, but I’ve been coming back to “Yeezus” since its release.

What to listen to when you’re feeling overwhelmed: “Separation” by Balance and Composure
Although “Separation” isn’t B&C’s latest release, it is incredible in its own rite. I know that when I’m overwhelmed I like to throw on some rock or some metal and just jam out (cue “Vultures” by The Air I Breathe). Balance and Composure has created its own niche in the alternative music scene, and songs like “Quake” and “I Tore You Apart in my Head” are the perfect anthems to play when you need to release some stress. Balance and Composure’s ambient rock style is perfect for the days where you just want to sing and jump around while you’re getting ready.

What to listen to when you’re feeling like a bad ass: “Going to Hell” by The Pretty Reckless
This release dropped last week and it is easily one of my favorite albums ever. Formerly Jenny on “Gossip Girl,” Taylor Momsen, front woman of The Pretty Reckless, delivers dark melodies and sultry coos in TPR’s sophomore release. Tracks like “Absolution” and “Sweet Things” are reminiscent of classic rock back in the 80’s, creating a unique sound in a genre that has completely lost its roots. The title track off this album, “Going to Hell” will make you sing along at the top of your lungs and it will definitely make you move those hips like no one is watching. Side effects of listening to this album may include laying on the black eye linear and wearing some hot pants, but there are worse things in life, right?

What to listen to when you’re feeling introspective; “Rooms” of the House by La Dispute
La Dispute is one of those bands people either love or hate. Their newest album dropped last week and it is incredible. Jordan Dryer, front man of La Dispute, offers up melodic, spoken word like songs in this album. Tracks like “Woman ( In Mirror)” are hauntingly beautiful and simple yet beautiful lyrics such as “there are moments here, only yours and mine, tiny dots on an endless timeline” are present in every single track of the album. Although ROTH is not everyone’s cup of tea, it is one of the most original and distinct albums to date. If you’re in the mood to think and listen, play this album front to back as you get ready.
