Fashion Events in Columbia

Fashion Week has started at USC, and the budding designers are all waiting to show off their artistic and inventive creations. With all the focus on fashion this week, I compiled a list of upcoming events in Columbia that anyone interested in fashion should attend!

1. Student Designer Showcase
Where: 701 Whaley
When: Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m.
This show is a compilation of featured collections made by USC students. They will showcase their unique designs, and the winner will have their clothes presented in the Thursday finale show. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

2. Finale Fashion Show
Where: 701 Whaley
When: Thursday, April 3 at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6 p.m.)
The sixth annual finale show will include featured looks from Columbia’s top boutiques, the winner of the student showcase, a silent auction, and a vendor lounge opening at 6 p.m.! The tickets are $7 in advance, or $10 at the door. A $10 ticket combo can be purchased on USC’s HRSM website for entry to both of the shows.

3. Runaway Runway
Where: Township Auditorium
When: Saturday, April 5 at 8 p.m.
Runaway Runway is a spectacular show that exhibits designer’s imagination by creating fashionable and inimitable designs made from recycled materials! Local designers will “strut their junk” in a recycled fashion show. This is one of Columbia’s hottest and most original shows, including live music, entertainment, and stunning recycled fashions. Floor tickets are $75, and include the ticket, light hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer, and after party admission. The less expensive balcony tickets are 25$, and do not include the amenities associated with the floor tickets. Tickets can be bought at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/runaway-runway-2014-tickets-10810407219.

4. Columbia International Festival
Where: S.C. State Fairground
When: Saturday, April 5 (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Sunday, April 6 (noon to 6 p.m.)
The 19th annual Columbia International festival features music, culture, fashion, art, and food from various nationalities, races, and language groups in South Carolina. The event brings all of the communities together to bring unity to the South Carolina Community. Some events within the festival include an international fashion show and local vendors selling unique items particular to their country! Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door.

These events and shows are a great way to support local vendors and the budding fashion designers in Columbia. Most of these events are not expensive, so I highly support going to more than one. They are perfect events to take a date, or bring your friends, to experience local and global fashion.
