Concerts to Scream For

Most of the time when I look at tour dates of my favorite bands, I get a little depressed and angry because usually South Carolina (or the United States, in my case) is the last place good artists travel to. With this new year, another one of my pacts to myself is that I will see as many good bands as possible, so I’ve been religiously looking at venue websites finding all the good shows. Fortunately, this has been a good start of the year for tours and album releases, so there are tons of choices. I’ve made a list of a few good bands that are going to be in Columbia and the surrounding areas, some as soon as today through the next few months.

Surfer Blood at the New Brookland Tavern in West Columbia on Feb. 19: Yes this is today, and no it isn’t sold out. If you like indie surf rock (Best description I could come up with!), I suggest you come!

Young the Giant at the Fillmore in Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 21: Young the Giant is at the top of my best bands live list and is one that I would see everyday if I could. The two-hour drive to Charlotte would be totally worth it, and it’s on a Friday so you have no class to rush back to the next day.

The Naked and Famous at the Fillmore in Charlotte, N.C. on Feb. 25: It’s on a Tuesday, but that is the only downfall of this concert. The Naked and Famous are super good live and this will definitely be a band that should be on your must-see-live list.

mewithoutYou at the New Brookland Tavern in West Columbia on March 13: Another band that is close to campus that would be a great night out. Instead of a Thirsty Thursday out at Five Points. go to the Tavern and hear a great band.

Local Natives at the Fillmore in Charlotte, N.C on April 19: Another great band that is playing on a Saturday, so this is another great reason to road trip and get some spring shopping done in Charlotte beforehand. Local Natives would definitely be a fun show that you could really dance and have fun at.
