Singing Competition Overload?

Singing competition shows have been around for a while; the longest one running is “American Idol,” which began in 2002. Now there are shows like the “ The X Factor” and “The Voice” that are aired. Is this too many?

“American Idol” was what my family sat around and watched years ago when I was in elementary and middle school; it was good family fun. “Idol” has also put out some amazing artists like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, but everyone else wasn’t really memorable. Maybe the fact that I can only remember two of the 12 winners proves my point.

Years ago, everyone only watched “American Idol;” it was basically the only show of its kind for a while and it was awesome; lately with the new shows, it’s hard to go back to “American Idol,” especially because they keep on changing the judges. Let’s be honest: Paula and Simon made the show… no one cared about Randy. With Simon Cowell gone and now judging his show “The X Factor,” it seems like it is now getting more popular than “Idol.”

Personally, I like “The X Factor” way more than “American Idol”—and not just because I love Demi Lovato. It’s different than “American Idol” and geared more toward younger people. I like the fact that it is a little more open-minded to groups instead of saying the artist have to be solo or not play instruments. In “The X Factor,” the judges are more hands on with the contestants, which is one of the best parts seeing. Also winners receive a multimillion-dollar recording contract, which is significantly more than the $1 million dollar Idol contract.

“The Voice” is a lot different than the other two, but is still a competitor in the singing show competition. The best thing that “The Voice” has going for it is Adam Levine, because we all know the teenage girls are watching just for that. Other than Levine, “The Voice” is still in the dust compared to “The X Factor” in my opinion.
