5 Ways To Limit Your Stress This Semester

1) Limit Social Media:

Although social media is supposed to connect us to the world, it seemingly disconnects us in several ways. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Tinder are taking over our lives and averting us from what is happening right in front of us. Studying and completing daily tasks has become secondary to scrolling through social media platforms, which can often cause one to fall behind academically. Technology in today’s society is mostly beneficial, but sometimes it is better to be unplug for a while, or at least while you’re studying for that Economics final.

2) Travel:

It is important to change your environment once in a while. A trip to Folly Beach or even a road trip to Florida with your roommates could alleviate stress. The sand and waves will provide a nice break from all the studying. And if you can’t make it out of town, go to the Riverside Zoo, or head over to the Horseshoe, lay out a towel, and read a good book.

3) Join a Club or Intramural Sport:

USC offers a wide variety of clubs and sports for students, which can help you budget your time wisely. Sports also provide you with a stress outlet. Take your stress out on the field and clear your mind, or meet once per week with people who share a similar interest, whether it’s fashion, film, or engineering. This will allow you to get back into the school grind on a cleaner slate, and an activity like Ultimate Frisbee gives you something to look forward to after a long day of classes.

4) Stay Healthy/ Exercise:

Exercise releases endorphins and gives you a natural high. And exercising not only makes you feel good, but also provides a chance to relieve stress. Eating healthy and getting a stable amount of exercise in will uplift you mentally and physically, and the University makes it easy to take advantage of the fitness centers on campus, which will boost your energy and release stress.

5) SLLLEEEEEP:

Sleep isn’t for the weak – it’s for those of us who want to remain sane and healthy. There may not be enough time in the day to complete everything you originally thought you would, so just get some rest and finish it the next day. There is no sense in pulling an all-nighter, which will just make you more frazzled. Getting enough sleep allows you to have productive days and remain in good health.
