Whether it’s telling a story through the body of another character or creating her own outlet for storytelling, Brittaney will have her voice heard.

As both a theater and broadcast student, Brittaney is an avid lover of the arts, and a fan of telling stories that matter. She makes a point to take on every opportunity with an equal level of passion, poise and confidence you can’t help but to remember her for.

Choosing to step outside of her comfort zone earlier this year, she released her very own production, “A Woman’s Suffrage,” highlighting various issues of abuse through a woman’s perspective while trying to also represent diverse individuals to make it relatable.

“My mom said she knew my calling when I would pretend to be all of my imaginary friends,” she jokes. “I do theater because I get to create life in a character. So I don’t ‘act’, I create and represent. “

The production was a life-changing experience for her as she became more than just an actress, but a representation for those around her who are under-represented, or simply afraid of sharing their story.

“Most people my age have dealt with mental, verbal, emotional or physical abuse at some point in their lives, but people aren’t too keen on sharing their experiences because it can be shameful to talk about,” she says. “I decided that people need to understand how people really deal with the different types of abuse and the only way I truly know how to deliver this message, is through words, music, dance – the art of communication.”

As an active voice on campus, Brittaney loves to share stories that will impact people or allow them to think beyond what they see. Just earlier this year, she spoke out against the controversial “founders week” tweets for African American sororities and fraternities, and with the play, she’s made it her mission to open up more doors for diverse and powerful roles for individuals of color in the theater department.

“A woman’s suffrage has had a strong impact on my life because now I know that I can do anything and I learned that if I do something that isn’t scary or if I do something and never make a mistake from it then I am not living, I am not learning and therefore I am not evolving. “
